With some of his first official credits being Foreigner\u2019s \u201cAgent Provocateur\u201d and Kiss\u2019 \u201cLick It Up\u201d albums from the early \u201980s, it\u2019s an understatement to say that Frank Filipetti\u2019s career was off to a flying start. From there on out, he\u2019s continued to work with the who\u2019s who of the artist elite and excelled in every field from pop, rock and metal to original cast Broadway shows and major studio Hollywood films. Along with numerous accolades as well as a deep-rooted respect within the audio engineering industry, his work has earned him seven Grammy Awards. A one-of-a-kind replica.<\/strong><\/p>\n
Although built to perfectly replicate the design and acoustics of the classic Power Station (formerly Avatar) studio on West 53rd Street in New York City, there is an inherent magic between the four walls of Power Station New England<\/span> that is truly unique. At a glance, every detail of the interior looks exact: the characteristic 35-foot dome in the main room, the wood-paneled walls and the main layout of the rooms are all there. However, some things \u2013 like feel<\/em>, vibe<\/em> and mojo<\/em> \u2013 can\u2019t be replicated with bricks and mortar alone. Located in southeastern Connecticut, directly between New York City and Boston, this studio has been a first-pick destination for top productions since it first opened its doors back in 1995. Aside from the perfectly engineered rooms<\/span>, the carefully restored Neve 8068 MK II console also stands out. Originally stationed in the historic Electric Lady Studio in 1979 and after that at Pachyderm Studios, this very console has had the honor of processing audio produced by the likes of John Lennon, AC\/DC, Van Halen and Nirvana, to name a few. <\/strong><\/p>\n

The six drum kits for this SDX were selected to each portray an era or sound in Frank Filipetti\u2019s catalogue. With a career spanning more than six decades and covering highlights touching on anything from pop, rock and metal to musical theater and soundtracks, you\u2019ll have a pool of kits that by design spans an enormous breadth of tones.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\n In addition, legendary drum technician Artie Smith<\/span> was present throughout the entire session to oversee tuning and treatments. The imprint Artie has left through his several-decade-long tenure in the world of drums can\u2019t be overlooked. With Frank having worked on music for anything from motion picture soundtracks to original cast Broadway shows, this SDX wouldn\u2019t be complete without a comprehensive collection of percussion to go with the drums. To that end, 34 carefully selected instruments were chosen and recorded in the main room using the same 5.0 microphone setup as the drums were recorded with. Ranging anything from roaring timpani and majestic gongs down to subtle handheld shakers, this portion of the SDX will give you an essential toolset of go-to instruments for any Broadway-type of production to singer-songwriter, pop and rock.
